My dad died suddenly with a heart attack when I was 22. No matter the days that have past, I can still feel him nearby and there are times that I miss him so. As long as he lives in my memory, he will always be close by. If your dad has died also, may this poem comfort you.

This poem originally was published in Sad Poems - Poems about Death

Dad many images come to mind
whenever I speak your name;
It seems without you in my life
things have never been the same.

What happened to those lazy days
when I was just a child;
When my life was consumed in you
in your love, and in your smile.

What happened to all those times
when I always looked to you;
No matter what happened in my life
you could make my gray skies blue.

Dad, some days I hear your voice
and turn to see your face;
Yet in my seems
the sound has been erased.

Dad, who will I turn to for answers
when life does not make sense;
Who will be there to hold me close
when the pieces just don't fit.

Oh, Dad, if I could turn back time
and once more hear your voice;
I'd tell you that out of all the dads
you would still be my choice.

Please always know I love you
and no one can take your place;
Years may come and go
but your memory will never be erased.

Today, Jesus, as You are listening
in your home above;
Would you go and find my dad
and give him all my love.

    This poem really touched my heart. I lost my dad two years ago from injuries due to a fall at a construction site. We knew he was hurt bad, but was not expecting him to die. All of a sudden things went wrong and he went to be with the Lord. So thank you for this poem.

    I too lost my dad 7 years ago, I loved my dad more than anything. He had polio and it was so very difficult for him to walk and yet he put the pain away and did all the wonderful things a fathers does, play games, ride a bike, swim, sled ride, play ball and so many more. I looked up to him. In his last days he was in his loving home with my mom and his four daughters to care for him. some times his friends would tease him because he had no son's but in the end he couldn't be more proud of his daughters. Each of us gave him a grandson to love and cherish. When I read this poem it was so touching and would have been what I would say. Each Father's day and each anniversay of his death I write someting and put it in the local paper in tribute to my dad. I was so proud and grateful that I was able to care for him and he was able to die at home. Seven years may seem a long time to someone else but to us it's like we lost him today. Thank you for such a loving tribute to your dad.

    This poem is excellent for a Dad and daughter. My dad passed away May 8, 2007 and so many things written in this poem echo how I feel. I don't know what it is about a dad's voice, but I also loved the sound of my dad, and it is one of the things I miss the most. He had lung cancer, but he fell, and died before I thought he would. He had such a strong spirit, and he was my best friend. Thank you for writing this poem.

    My dad past away a year ago on 7/13/06 from melanoma. I wanted to put a picture and a special note to him in the newspaper. I was having a hard time coming up with the right words, until I read your poem. It was almost everything I wanted to say and alot more. Thank you so much for being able to write the most perfect poem I have ever read.

    I really love this poem and I decided to use it at my dads memorial. It says everything I've been feeling. My dad passed away on 6-26-07, and it has been really hard to put words onto paper and i really appreciate this poem at this hard time.
