I wrote this poem for my friend Amber to remind her just how special she is to me. Friendship is something we all take for granted. Let those you love know now, for tomorrow may never come.

For all the times you made me smile, thank you.
For all the times you held my hand, thank you.
For all the times you smiled at me, thank you.
For all the times you listened to me when no one else would, thank you.
For all the times you encouraged me, thank you.
For all the times you hugged me, thank you.
For all the times you shared a part of yourself with me, thank you.
For all the times you kissed me on the cheek, thank you.
For all the times you gave me a ride somewhere, thank you.
For all the times you asked to spend time with me, thank you.
For all the times you trusted me, thank you.
For all the times you complimented me, thank you.
For all the times you cared about my well being, thank you.
For all the times you said "I love you", thank you.
For all the times you thought of me, thank you.
For all the times you brought me joy, thank you.
For all the times you were there when I needed you, thank you.
For all the times you missed me, thank you.
For all the times you gave me comfort, thank you.
For all the times you looked in my eyes and filled my heart with a song, thank you.

When our life gets too complicated we sometimes lose sight of those little things that make life a little sweeternd more bearable. And it's really assuring to begin to look back on the blessing we have... the love we have.. and to cultivate that much needed attitude of thanksgiving and gratitude. As a retired English teacher, I wish I had had Mr. King in one of my classes. "For All the Times" is a simple, yet moving expression of what friendship really means. His use of free verse works beautifully; his sentiments are so purely stated. His sensitivity is obvious. I particularly like his use of repetition. Can we ever say "Thank you" enough? It's a poem I intend to hand copy for my husband as an anniversary card - my husband is my best friend. Perhaps I should also, with Mr. King's permission, copy that first stanza as a Mother's Day card to my Mom. In fact, maybe Mr. King should consider approaching Hallmark Cards or Gibson cards. They are always open to new writers, and his poem would be ideal for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or Father's Day. Most especailly the first stanza. It might even be a good card for a graduating child to give to his/her parents. What a tribute to ! their efforts and what a loving thank you to parents. If he considers it, tell him I'm a veteran watercolor painter. I'd be honored to do an illustration; however, Hallmark and Gibson usually use their own in-house illustrators for cards. He needs to go for it. If I saw that poem in a card at a store, I'd buy - like I said - one for my husband, my mom and my dad. Gifted young man.

My friend and I just had a fight. It was my fault that all of this happened and from my heart I feel terrible about it all. At first I thought we were through but I'm hoping that we can work things out. I sent her this email in hopes that she might see how upset I am and try to forgive me. I thought that it was a beautiful poem and should be published in Chicken Soup for the soul or in some book. It has a lot of hidden meaning in it, I think and it should be shared with the world.
