This poem reminds me of the sons and daughters that didn't come back alive and so it touched me in many ways. I think this poem is wonderfully written and touvhes the heart in it's deepest recesses. IRELAND and the falklands, when i read this poem it brought back memories of tumbledown and the sheer futility and absurdity of armed conflict. it brought back the feelings i had as i watched my friends die or get wounded following orders, i think the author has captured the aftermath of a battle where even the winners lose, i would be interested to know if the author had ever been in a live battle. once again i would like to congratulate the author in capturing the heartrending aftermath of battle

  I enjoyed this poem so much, it really touched me. I have been performing poetry since I was 5, and last year when I was 16 I was completing my diploma in Speech and Drama. My teacher said the poem was too difficult to pull off, so I decided that I would do it at the regional eisteddfod to see how I went. The audience didnt clap when I finished, there was silence till I left the stage then they applauded. I won that section and decided to perform the poem for my diploma exam, which I passed and got 94% for that poem!

We had a very dear friend that gave the ultimate sacrifice in Ramadi, Iraq in January of this year. Only 19 years old and he was so proud to serve our country. This poem describes exactly how he was.   This is my first-time visit to this site. I was directly drawn to Small Pain in My Chest. This poem reminds me of a hollow I have in my heart everytime the memories of my late father come. I'm not a poetic person nor I'm able to write beautiful poems. But I like reading them. When I read the title, I imagined the feeling of losing. Mr. Mack beautifully and smoothly 'tells' the dying stages of the young soldier through simple words in a monologue. I love this poem.

  I had just written an essay about my experience with WWII service men coming home from war and finding "little girls" while they had grown into men when I read your poem. All this on Veterans Day! I really can't tell you how emotional it made me feel since Bush wants to declare war and I have had a father in WWI, a husband in WWII and a son in Vietnam.
