I wrote this poem because I was tired of all these things people want you to be, this image the world burns into our minds about how we should be, how we should look, turning us into robots. But I won't! Some people, some of them friends, say I am weird, and I think I like it. It proves to me, that I dare to be different.

The poem is about being different, and others seeing you as being nothing, cause you don't look or act, or care about the same things they do.

Maybe I wear baggies
and white socks with flip-flops,
maybe I don't like listening to rave
and I'm not on the social mountaintops,
maybe I don't care about the things
that make your worlds twirl,
maybe you look at me and think:
Gee, what a nothing girl.

Maybe I like giving smiles
which seems to be a sin today,
and maybe I allow my imagination
to sometimes run away,
maybe you don't understand this
and that's why you cannot see,
if this make me a nothing girl,
hey, that's ok with me!

The world makes you believe
your personality mustn't be detected,
your face must be picture perfect
and wear cloths just the best, to be accepted.
Maybe I look at you
and feel sorry that you're blind,
robots you have became,
yourself you'll never find.

God made you, as well as me,
this means I am something,
the world is a liar
and if I must be a nothing
for you to see it,
then so be it!

This poem relates to alot of people. So many teens feel this way at least one point though out middle school or high school. I really related to this poem. All of my eighth grade school year i felt as if i didn't fit in because i didn't like the same kind of guys my friends did or that i didn't even like the same kind of clothing that my friends did. This poem will show a lot of teens that it doesn't matter what other people think about you it just matters about what you think about yourself that you love yourself for who you are. Don't change for other people. Change because you want to be someone else for you own sake not someone else to be able to fit in better if you don't fit it in with the people you hang out with and they don't like you because of it you need new friends. I was lucky my friends didn't care that i didn't like the same guys as they did or that i didn't dress like them they understood that i wasn't like them and thats what they like me for that i wouldn't change myself just to fit in that i didn't care what other people thought of me. Don't change stay the way you are friends are friends no matter who they are. Very good poem Your helping many many many people understand to be themselves. I really enjoyed this poem because it's so true. For those of us who dare to be different, it's hard - but so rewarding when we can be free from the ties that hold everyone else together, like robots. I really enjoyed reading this. My best friend is handicapped and you wouldn't believe how many times a day I hear something bad come out of someone's mouth about these type of people. They may look different on the outside, but they have big hearts and all they want is a friend. It breaks my heart to hear what people have to say about them. It matters not what you look like. This poem TRUELY touched me. I have always told myself that I don't care what people think of me, and that labels don't matter to me, but deep down inside, I've always known that wasn't ture. I've always cared about what people thought, because I was afraid that people wouldn't understand, and that no one would like me. But your peom has shown me that being different isn't so scary, and I don't have to dye my hair funny colors, or wear all black etc. to get poeple to notice me. Because of you, I've finally, truely noticed, that I'm special, and I'm unique, and I don't have to do stupid things to my apperiance that I don't like just to be different or "cool". I know this may sound kind of lame, but your poem has changed my life, and I'm happy to say I may never look at it in the same, materialistic way ever again. hey just want to tell you your poem was really well writen. It brought back some memories from when I was in elementary and middle school. Everyone made fun of me and beat me up because I thought different from them. I used to go home crying every day untill that one day I just stood up to them. This poem describes how i feel at times. I am who i am. And if people can't accept that, that's their problem. I have always wondered if i was alone on that. Maybe i was they only one who thought that different wasnt so different. but it really is. people are becoming robots. With the same personality as everyone else. this poem made me think of how the " popular" kids in school act, when i'm the NOTHING girl that is not noticed and when you have to dress PERFECT to be accepted. well i don't think they're popular anymore after reading this i think they're just people that think that other people that don't look like them are not qualified to be in their groop when they don't have a group themselves.

I think your poem is awesome. It made me feel a lot better when I read it. There is this girl in one of my classes, she sits beside my boyfriend. She wears the most expensive and tight clothes she can find. "She's Perfect". She always gives me dirty looks and looks at my clothes like they're disgusting. Hi, I really like this poem, it has a great message. I'm 14, but thankfully I have never fallen into the trap of conformity. I'm not an outcast because of it, but I do know many people who are looked down upon for merely being themselves. And I do feel sorry for people who never let their real self show through, and are afraid to be who they really are. Great Poem =o)
